ZAGREB, June 8 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's House of Counties on Tuesday endorsed several bills in first reading, including amendments to a law on the status of refugees and displaced persons. In a brief discussion on the
motioned amendments, Mato Simic of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union objected to a proposal according to which displaced persons accommodated in houses owned by others would have to move out in instances of a court ruled so. The amendments propose the revocation of a provision protecting from eviction displaced persons temporarily accommodated in others' houses under decisions made by competent bodies. Simic said it was very, very dangerous to revoke the mentioned provision as it was bound to cause additional dissatisfaction among the people in question. He believes a proposal to reduce refugee status to three months is also non-viable.(hina) ha jn
