ZAGREB ON JUNE 27-29 ZAGREB, June 4 (Hina) - An international conference on the removal of anti-personnel mines will be held in Zagreb on June 27-29. Invitations have been sent to 39 countries, said a statement issued by the Croatian
Government on Friday. At yesterday's meeting of a committee to organise the conference, it was decided that invitations would also be sent to international government and non-government organisations operating in Croatia, and world organisations dealing with mine removal problems. According to the latest data from the Croatian Mine Removal Centre, about 5,980 square kilometres in 14 Croatian counties are mined. It is estimated that about one million mines had been planted on this area. Live mines have killed a total of 866 persons in Croatia, which is one of the first countries to ratify a convention banning the production of anti-personnel mines.(hina) jn rml
