town council and the town authorities, held on the occasion of Croatian Statehood Day, May 30. Croatian President Franjo Tudjman decorated 136 persons with the "Vukovar 1991" memorial plaques for participation in the peaceful reintegration of eastern Croatia. "The struggle for a peaceful reintegration of Croatia lasted two
years. Politicians, common people, and everybody who had Vukovar
and this part of Croatia in their hearts participated in the peace
mission," said Skare-Ozbolt, adding that a period of grief and fear
for eastern Croatia had ended with the return to Vukovar.
