for Bosnia-Herzegovina fully supports the work of the Hague-based
War Crimes Tribunal (ICTY) and all of its rulings, a spokeswoman for
the OHR told Hina in Sarajevo on Thursday.
Commenting on the indictment against Slobodan Milosevic and his
four close associates, unsealed by the Hague Court today, the
spokeswoman, Alexandra Stiglmayer said the indictments which cover
war crimes committed in Kosovo since this January were not linked
with the situation in Bosnia.
Bosnia must stay outside the current conflict. The international
community will do its best to be so, Stiglmayer said.
The OHR believes that the latest developments do not affect the
validity of Milosevic's signature on the Dayton Accords, as at the
time when the war in Bosnia was over, the then Serbian President
Milosevic was not accused of war crimes.
Milosevic, however, is no longer in the position to do anything
significant regarding the implementation of commitments from the
Dayton deal and we maintain that he has no more influence on Bosnia,
Stiglmayer said.
She allowed that Yugoslav President could influence radical
elements in the Bosnian Serb entity (the Republic of Srpska) to a
certain extent.
We do not expect that the situation in the Serb entity will become
complicated as the local population has showed great maturity since
March 5 when the High Representative dismissed Nikola Poplasen from
the office of the President of the Republic of Srpska and when a
decision was made on Brcko. We hope they will continue showing such
maturity, Stiglmayer added.
