NEW YORK, May 18 (Hina) - Croatia's permanent representative at the
United Nations, Ivan Simonovic, on Tuesday addressed the
preparatory committee for a special session of the UN General
Assembly on the implementation of the outcome of a world summit for
social development and further initiatives.
On the national level, Croatia has undertaken numerous measures to
implement the conclusions of the world summit on social
development, the ambassador said in Washington.
Simonovic briefed the preparatory committee on what Croatia had
done following a Copenhagen of four years ago.
As particularly important, he assessed the programme of
reconciliation and social reintegration in Croatian areas formerly
under Serbian occupation and which have been most affected by the
consequences of the Serbian aggression earlier this decade.
Simonovic also spoke about the reconstruction programme, national
employment programmes, the promotion of equality, and a national
programme of actions for children.
The ambassador announced the impending compiling of an integral
Croatian report on the implementation of conclusions reached at the
Copenhagen summit.
Speaking about the globalisation of world economy, Simonovic said
it will require increasingly bigger international cooperation in
economic and social development, because he believes it will affect
developing countries only negatively.
