ZAGREB, May 26 (Hina) - The Croatian National Parliament House of
representatives on Wednesday ended its session with a discussion on
a report on the position of Croats as a minority in European
countries.
MPs mostly agreed that the position of the Croat minority in other
European countries was worse than the position of minorities in
Croatia. This is also the assessment of a committee for immigration
which suggested to the Government that it should make a summary of
everything national minorities are receiving in Croatia, so a
comparison could be made with what Croats are receiving in European
countries.
Ivan Gabelica of the Croatian Pure Party of Rights said there were
only countries in which the position of Croats are difficult or
worse.
Most MPs stressed Croatia should stress more aggressively the fact
that it is fulfilling all standards in the protection of
minorities.
MPs also warned about the very difficult position of Croats in
Yugoslavia -- Srijem, Vojvodina, Boka Kotorska.
The MPs also stressed the principle of reciprocity would be crucial
in the solving of mutual relations when it comes to minorities with
countries of the former Yugoslavia.
In relations with Yugoslavia, especially important will be a
bilateral agreement on the protection of minorities, MPs
concluded.
