DRAFT BILL ON CUSTOMS PRESENTED TO LOWER HOUSE

ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - A new act on customs will replace the act which was adopted in 1991 and which is still in effect. The adoption of the new law is necessary due to changes in the economic and fiscal policy, intensified preparations for Croatia's inclusion into European and the world's integration processes and Croatia's bid to enter the World Trade Organisation (WTO), said the head of Croatian Customs Administration, Josip Knezic, to the Croatian National Parliament (Sabor) on Thursday. Knezic presented a draft bill on customs to the House of Representatives during its 39th session. The bill, which is in the first reading in the lower house, should enable speedier transit of goods at border crossings, the storage of commodities in one's own warehouses, and introduction of the standard documentation i.e. the same forms for goods. Under the bill, customs officers will be able to make additional controls, and have more authority for the control of goods, persons documents and space.
