LOWER HOUSE DEBATES THREE NEWLY-APPOINTED MINISTERS

ZAGREB, May 6 (Hina) - Debating the three newly-appointed ministers, who were presented on Thursday to the Sabor's House of Representatives by Premier Zlatko Matesa, representatives of the "Opposition Six" said they did not want to dispute the quality of the proposed ministers as experts, but they had not seen their work programmes. The Croatian Social-Liberal Party (HSLS) believes it is unacceptable for the Lower House to discuss the new ministers "after they have been travelling around the world and representing Croatia for almost a month". This tells a lot about the role of the parliament, HSLS representatives said. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) doubts that the new ministers would make any positive changes because, they believe, many ministers who had been appointed by the Government were experts but it became clear very soon that they did not have the freedom to act in their fields. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) doubts that the new ministers would make any positive changes because, they believe, many ministers who had been appointed by the Government were experts but it became clear very soon that they did not have the freedom to act in their fields. The Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) is dissatisfied with the frequent changes in the Government and therefore refuses to participate in them. The Croatian People's Party/Istrian Democratic Forum (HNS/IDS) bench believes it would be fair from Milan Kovac, who prior to his latest appointment was Privatisation Minister, to submit a detailed report on the work of the Privatisation Ministry during his mandate. The names of former ministers, especially Justice Minister Milan Ramljak, were frequently mentioned during the debate. MPs expressed dissatisfaction with th fact that they had not been given the explanation as to why he had resigned. The new ministers were supported by the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP). The Lower House will vote on the new ministers on Friday. (hina) jn rml
