VIENNA, May 25 (Hina) - Croatian Tourism Minister Ivan Herak held a
press conference for Austrian reporters and tour operators in
Vienna on Tuesday.
The conference was aimed at introducing the new conception of
Croatian tourism to foreign tourist markets, and promoting
Croatia's tourist offer on those markets.
Croatian tourism will continue to aspire to quality macroeconomics
solutions, primarily referring to its tax relief, the
restructuring in Croatian tourist companies' management,
companies' privatisation, and the creation of a new marketing plan
for Croatian tourism.
Minister Herak stressed Austrians were traditional guests in
Croatia. In 1998, 457,000 Austrians chose Croatia as their tourist
destination, which is two percent more than in 1997. They realised
2.9 million overnight stays, which is 1.2 percent more than the year
before. Austria is fifth according to the number of tourists and
overnight stays on the list of foreign countries; six percent of
Austrians vacation in Croatia.
Speaking of the effects of the Kosovo crisis on Croatian tourism,
Herak said the final results of Croatian tourism this year could be
20 to 40 percent poorer than last year, depending on the outcome of
the NATO strikes.
