effect, said Croatia's Justice Minister Zvonimir Separovic during Saturday's meeting with presidents of County Courts. Commenting on the promptness of courts, on white-collar crime and on measures aimed to improve the unsatisfactory situation in Croatia's judiciary, Minister Separovic said Croatia had skilled judges but all should further insist on the independence, ethics and law-abiding characteristic of the judges. We are now faced with pressure to discontinue processes in Osijek, Vukovar and other war-affected towns, Separovic told judges during the meeting in Zagreb. We are now faced with pressure to discontinue processes in Osijek,
Vukovar and other war-affected towns, Separovic told judges during
the meeting in Zagreb. But, if there is evidence that a serious war
crime has been committed, there is no obstacle not to punish it, he
added announcing a more active attitude of Croatia toward the
Hague-based International War Crimes Tribunal.
Many pending cases are still the main problem of the Croatian
judiciary. Only in the first three months this year, courts
received 31 percent more files than in the same period last year.
That's why the courts must work more promptly, said participants in
Saturday's meeting at the Justice Ministry.
