HSLS AND SDP AGREE TO DRAW UP JOINT COOPERATION PROGRAMME

ZAGREB, May 18 (Hina) - Delegations of the Croatian Social-Liberal Party (HSLS) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), led by their presidents Drazen Budisa and Ivica Racan, respectively, on Tuesday decided to jointly draw up a programme of cooperation during and after the elections, in constituting the Parliament and coalition government. A joined statement, signed by Budisa and Racan, describes yesterday's proposals by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) regarding a new election law, as "inadequate and unacceptable". Croatia needs a "democratic election law", read the statement and added that one should continue efforts to reach a consensus on important issues regarding the election law. The two parties said they were against a special electoral list which would grant privileged status to any group of Croatian citizens, adding that all Croatian citizens should be granted the same right to vote and be

The two parties described their cooperation so far as very successful, adding they would continue cooperating within the "Opposition Six" with the aim of clarifying contentious issues and determining the modalities of cooperation before, during and after the election.
