WASHINGTON, May 4 (Hina) - On Tuesday afternoon, the first meeting
between delegations of Croatia and Slovenia and a former US Defence
Secretary, William Perry, will be held in Washington on the issue of
the sea border between the two countries.
In response to a question by Hina, the Croatian Embassy in the U.S.
capital confirmed the meeting "on which the governments of the two
countries have reached agreement."
Former U.S. Defence Secretary accepted a proposal by Ljubljana and
Zagreb to help reach agreement on the interstate border on the sea
by his advisory opinion. Although such opinion, under
international law, does not oblige the parties in the dispute, the
Washington meeting should be considered as the serious attempt of
Croatia and Slovenia to solve the issue which has been unsettled
since they won independence.
Croatia's Embassy in Washington said the Zagreb delegation would
comprise the co-chairman of the mixed border commission, Hrvoje
Kacic, Ambassador Neven Madey who is Croatian President's advisor
on foreign affairs, and Ljerka Alajbeg, the chief legal advisor at
the Foreign Ministry.
Slovenia's delegation will be led by the co-chairman of the mixed
border commission, Peter Tos, and other members are Professor Borut
Bohte and a judge at the Constitutional Court, Mirjam Skrk.
