SINJSKA ALKA CHANGED DUE TO WORLD MILITARY GAMES SINJ, April 24 (Hina) - The final games of 284th "Sinjska Alka" tournament, which will be held under the auspices of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, will take place in Sinj on August 1 instead August 8. The schedule of Alka had to be changed because of the official opening of the World Military Games in Zagreb due to be on August 8, said Mate Jukic at an assembly of the Alka society on Saturday. The Sinjska Alka is a traditional contest which take place in the southern Croatian town of Sinj (Split hinterland) every summer to mark a local victory over Ottoman Turks in 1715. In the tournament lance-wielding horsemen dressed in traditional outfits match their skills as they target a metal ring suspended over a track.
