SKOPLJE, April 22 (Hina) - Macedonian President Kiro Gligorov on
Wednesday evening pointed to a very difficult situation the Kosovo
crisis has generated in his country, and stressed the international
community had partially failed to fulfil its promises regarding
Kosovar refugees, the Macedonian President's Office reported on
Tuesday.
Last night, Gligorov discussed the situation in the country with
representatives of major political parties, who demanded a firmer
stand of the Macedonian Government toward the international
community with regards to Macedonia's joining the European Union
and NATO.
The statement did not mention Gligorov's request on introducing the
state of emergency due to the immediate war danger, of which
Gligorov had informed the public during the strongest influx of
refugees at the Blace border crossing.
Political analysts in Skoplje believe this was an attempt by
Gligorev and his socialists to come back to power, after they lost
the elections held in fall 1998.
