ZAGREB, April 19 (Hina) - The Croatian and Romanian Culture Ministers, Bozo Biskupic and Ion Caramitru respectively, on Monday signed in Bucharest a programme of cultural cooperation for the period between 1999 and 2001. Before
signing the document, the two ministers discussed joint projects in culture, especially those in which the two countries can participate on the European level. Those projects include the project "The Wood Road", started by Romania, and dedicated to the European tradition in wood construction, as well as a project of establishment of a European regional cultural centre in Banloc castle near Timisoara, which was built by the Draskovic family, who belonged to the Croatian nobility. Ministers, Bozo Biskupic and Ion Caramitru respectively, on Monday
signed in Bucharest a programme of cultural cooperation for the
period between 1999 and 2001.
Before signing the document, the two ministers discussed joint
projects in culture, especially those in which the two countries
can participate on the European level. Those projects include the
project "The Wood Road", started by Romania, and dedicated to the
European tradition in wood construction, as well as a project of
establishment of a European regional cultural centre in Banloc
castle near Timisoara, which was built by the Draskovic family, who
belonged to the Croatian nobility.
Biskupic stressed readiness to support Romanian projects which are
of mutual interest, including the one on Romanian-Italian
protection and restoration of Roman cultural and historical
monuments on the territory of the two countries, which could be
joined by Croatia. He emphasised the importance of establishing
cultural links through competitions of young artists in Croatia and
Romania.
Present at the talks were also high officials from the Romanian
Culture Ministry, and the Croatian Ambassador in Bucharest, Niko
Bezmalinovic.
After signing the programme, the two ministers opened an exhibition
of contemporary Croatian graphics.
Biskupic will tomorrow visit Timisoara, where he will meet
representatives of local authorities.
