ALBANIAN GOVT WILL NOT PROCLAIM STATE OF EMERGENCY FOR REFUGEES

TIRANA, April 16 (Hina) - The Albanian Government will not introduce a state of emergency in the northern and north-eastern part of the country, the Government said on Friday. The proclamation of a state of emergency was requested by the Albanian Opposition, led by the former president of Albania, Sali Berisha, because of the enormous influx of refugees into the country. Since the beginning of the crisis in Kosovo, At least 312,000 exiled Kosovar Albanians have entered Albania via the border town of Kukes. Albanian Information Minister Musa Ulgini said the Albanian Government was decisively opposed to the proclamation of a state of emergency as this would aggravate the entering of refugees. The Albanian Interior Ministry warned the residents of Albania living on the border to be cautious because of mines the Yugoslav troops had laid.(hina) lml jn
