SARAJEVO, Apr 12 (Hina) - The chief commander of NATO's peace-
keeping Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday
told a Sarajevo daily the situation in the country was still tense
due to NATO's air strikes against neighbouring Yugoslavia.
Stability has been maintained despite minor incidents in the
Bosnian Serb entity, United States General Montgomery Meigs told
the Sarajevo-based daily "Oslobodjenje".
The close ties between Bosnian Serbs and those in Yugoslavia
represented a threat to the peace process in Bosnia, he said in the
interview, but pointed out Bosnia's entire population showed
interest in preserving peace.
General Meigs said there had been no mobilisations in Bosnia in the
past 20 days, nor serious disturbances in the compliance with the
Dayton peace agreement.
The SFOR commander did not seek for an increase in the number of his
soldiers in Bosnia, but warned that all threats to peace were being
carefully monitored and counter-measures set up.
Meigs refuted claims that the SFOR's Russian brigade was not
obeying orders. They are complying with their mission as on day one,
he emphasised.
