NATO's air strikes against neighbouring Yugoslavia have had a negative effect on Croatian tourism, as they have on tourist business in other Yugoslav neighbours, but the situation is not yet disastrous, members of the HTZ Tourism Council agreed at a convention in Croatia's northern Adriatic seaside resort of Opatija. Foreigners opt for holidays in northern Adriatic resorts, while most cancellations refer to Dubrovnik-Neretva County in southern Croatia. Tourist business during the Easter holidays will proceed as planned, but bookings for the pre-summer season and the peak summer season have already slowed down which, the HTZ representatives believe, may again result in financial losses in tourism. The German and Austrian markets are still reticent and waiting for the outcome of the situation in Yugoslavia. Cancellations have started coming from the Czech and Slovak markets, while in Great Britain up to 30 inquiries regarding security in Croatia are registered per day. (hina) ha jn
