The alert centre in Kragujevac reported that at 1.20 am several NATO projectiles hit the "Zastava" factory. A strong explosion shook the city centre and shattered windows on a number of buildings, houses and shops. A fire which broke out in the factory after the bombardment was localised this morning at 5 am. Kragujevac mayor Veroljub Stevanovic said that "the vital facilities of the factory were hit in the attack" but there were no human losses. Fifty minutes after midnight, NATO jets hit the "Jugopetrol" oil reservoir in Smederevo (60 km from Belgrade) with three missiles. Huge blazes could be seen clearly in the Yugoslav capital. There were no victims in the attack but three people were lightly injured while putting out the fire, which was extinguished this morning. Three villages near Smederevo were evacuated although analyses showed that there is no danger of poisonous gases spreading following the explosion of petrol and other oil products. At 1 am three NATO missiles hit the area of Crni Vrh near Jagodina, where a Serbian Television relay is located. According to the Valjevo civil defence headquarters, about an hour after midnight, NATO hit targets in the wider Valjevo area. Two projectiles hit the area of Divcibare including a 10-km power transmission line, leaving nearby villages without electricity. Fifty minutes after midnight, NATO hit targets in south-east parts of Belgrade, near the barracks in Bubanj Potok. The barracks was the only target of NATO attacks in the wider Belgrade area last night. There have been no reports on civilian victims. (hina) rml
