MOSTAR, March 19 (Hina) - The arbitration decision on Brcko and the
attack on the Bosnian Federation Deputy Interior Minister Jozo
Leutar, have caused tensions in Bosnia-Herzegovina, SFOR
commander, US General Montgomery Meigs, said on Friday after talks
with the newly-appointed commander of the Stabilisation Force
multi-national division South-East, French General Arnold
Schwerdoffer, and head of the Mostar regional Office of the High
Representative, Richard Ellerkmann.
Recalling that Croat police officers in southern parts of the
country had left their jobs in police stations where Bosniaks have a
majority personnel due to the attack on Leutar, Meigs said the
international community would do everything to shed light on the
incident.
He added he had personally offered SFOR's specialised multi-ethnic
units to assist the International Police Task Force in the
investigation.
Meigs said the investigation was difficult and called on people not
to jump to conclusions based on rumours.
General Meigs dismissed any connection of the situation in Kosovo
and possible NATO strikes with the situation in Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
Commenting on statements by, as he put it, politicians of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) about a third entity in Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Meigs said there could not be any third entity,
according to the Dayton Agreement.
Wishes for some kind of political autonomy must be realised in the
present political systems, he added.
