Novi Sad "Liberty Bridge" on Saturday night, Yugoslav official

The destruction of the "Liberty Bridge" and Thursday's destruction
of another bridge in Novi Sad have left 30,000 residents without
running water.
Last night's attack on the "Liberty Bridge" and a bridge near Backa
Palanka (a town bordering with eastern Croatia) marked the
beginning of a new series of attacks on Belgrade, Smederevo,
Pancevo and Cacak.
Windows were shattered on the nearby Military Health Centre (VMA)
during the bombing of a police academy in Belgrade's neighbourhood
of Banjica. There has been no information on victims.
There was a strong smell of powder spreading through Novi Beograd
after NATO's attack on a heating plant. A fire, which broke out
after the attack, was extinguished in an hour and half. There is no
information on victims, but it is feared that there may be some
since the plant is surrounded by a large number of "wild
settlements" inhabited by very poor residents.
Last night's NATO action was also directed against the oil refinery
in Pancevo and a nearby power plant. It was confirmed that there is
no fear of poisonous gas spreading.
The Yugoslav state news agency Tanjug reported that two workers
were killed and another was wounded in an attack on the NIS oil
refinery in Pancevo.
An oil plant near Kraljevo was also hit and three people were
wounded in the attack. An oil industry Jugopetrol's warehouse in
the Belgrade neighbourhood of Cukarica was also targeted.
NATO planes this morning targeted for the first time Smederevo,
hitting "Jugopetrol" installations at 2.40 am with two missiles.
According to media reports, the Cacak-based factory "Sloboda" was
hit again this morning. The plant has almost been completely erased
in two previous attacks.
