ZAGREB, Apr 8 (Hina) - At the closed part of its Thursday session
chaired by Premier Zlatko Matesa, the Croatian government passed a
decision on sending humanitarian aid to Kosovo refugees in
Macedonia and Albania, the government's public and media relations
office said in a statement.
The government has already sent a large shipment of food, and will
now forward a significant amount of medical material and medicine.
Discussing the large-scale refugee crisis which has hit
neighbouring countries, the government concluded Croatia will bear
the burden of providing care for Kosovo refugees according to its
possibilities.
Despite the fact that it is currently providing care for more than
100,000 displaced persons and refugees, Croatia is willing to take
its part of obligations depending on an agreement expected to be
reached at today's special Luxembourg meeting of the European
Union's Council of Ministers with foreign ministers of countries
neighbouring Yugoslavia.
The government denied reports that it had ever considered the
possibility of accommodating Kosovo refugees in a tent settlement
on the territory of Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the City of
Dubrovnik, in southern-most Croatia.
As part of preparations for a government reshuffle, the government
also discussed drafts of a bill on the organisation and scope of
ministries and state administrations, and of a bill on changes to
the law on the system of state government. Remarks and opinions will
be included in the final bills to be discussed at the next
government session.
The government adopted a report submitted by a delegation
negotiating Croatia's access to the World Trade Organisation which
refers to the eleventh round of bilateral negotiations held in
Geneva between March 19 and 24. The report was assessed as very
positive and containing good prospects for an upcoming access.
The government has taken patronage over the second international
conference on European Union economic systems and Croatia's
adaptations, to be held in Rijeka on April 22 and 23.
