Seks on Friday said in Mumbai the talks Croatia's parliamentary
delegation held during its official, return visit to India would
greatly contribute to India's understanding of Croatia's
politics.
The Croatian delegation has been visiting India since March 27,
meeting the presidents of both houses of the Indian parliament, a
series of MPs, and the heads of India's four states.
During the talks, Seks said, the delegation outlined in detail the
significant messages of Croatia's state policy, pointed to its
correctness in the struggle for Croatia's independence, and to the
accountability of Serbia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia for
events on the territory of the former Yugoslav federation.
Seks said the visit to India would contribute to the strengthening
of the good political relations Croatia and India enjoy, and to the
further development of cultural and economic relations.
One of the principal focuses of the talks were economic relations
and possibilities of increasing the commodity exchange.
India's economy is the fifth largest in the world, with an annual
growth rate of some seven percent and a foreign exchange of
commodities of some US$80 billion. Last year's exchange with
Croatia revolved around US$21 million, with Croatia exporting
goods in the worth of US$1.5 million, and importing goods worth
US$19.3 million.
Major possibilities for changing the balance negative for Croatia
are in Croatia's shipbuilding. Croatia is also interested in
developing cooperation in infrastructure, and in the
pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries.
India has voiced interest in opening an international marketing
centre in Croatia's northern Adriatic port of Rijeka, with
exhibition premises in Zagreb.
Also emphasised during the talks was the importance of cultural
cooperation, on which the two countries signed an agreement earlier
in March.
A Croatian Film Week is or will be held in several towns in India
following the great success it enjoyed in New Delhi. Also
successful have been the guest performances of the Lado ensemble
which has been presenting Croatia's folklore heritage between
March 24 and April 4.
After visiting New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Goa, and Mumbai, the
Croatian parliamentary delegation is returning to Zagreb on
Saturday.
