WASHINGTON, Apr 1 (Hina) - Between April 6 and 8 Croatia will present itself as an economic and political partner of the United States at a manifestation in Chicago which, organisers expect, will show a new level of the two countries'

WASHINGTON, Apr 1 (Hina) - Between April 6 and 8 Croatia will
present itself as an economic and political partner of the United
States at a manifestation in Chicago which, organisers expect, will
show a new level of the two countries' bilateral relations.
"We have planned this presentation and the visit of a high-ranking
Croatian delegation at the time of the anniversary of the
recognition of Croatia's independence, and in remembrance of the
first American presidential mission to our country, which was led
by the tragically deceased Trade Minister Ron Brown," Croatia's
ambassador to the U.S. Miomir Zuzul told reporters in Washington on
Thursday.
His assessment is that economic relations between Croatia and the
U.S. are very successful in their development and represent an
additional impetus to political ties. With US$1 billion invested,
the U.S. comes first in direct investments in Croatian economy.
The political relations between Washington and Zagreb have been
considerably intensified due to the Kosovo crisis. Apart from being
given guarantees identical to those NATO has given to all members of
its Partnership for Peace programme, Croatia was on Wednesday
included in consultations with NATO in Brussels, Zuzul said.
The favourable advancement of relations must also be used to
realise Croatia's commitment to become a member of western military
and political institutions.
"Membership in the Partnership for Peace is not only a security
issue for Croatia, but also a watershed at which various political
speculation aimed at renewing some sort of Balkan or similar
federation can be eliminated once and for all," the ambassador
said.
