ZAGREB, March 26 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of
Representatives on Friday discussed amendments to the Law on Health
Insurance and a bill on the inspection of road traffic and roads.
According to the amendments to the Law on Health Insurance, persons
in independent professions who do not pay contributions and duties
would only have the right to emergency medical assistance.
Several MPs in the discussion warned about the non-fulfillment of
Parliament conclusions on health care, and asked that the
Government prepare a detailed account of the ways in which the
Parliament decisions are being fulfilled.
MPs agreed the health care system was not possible to rehabilitate
without the rehabilitation of the overall economy and a re-balance
of the state budget.
To back assessments on the alarming state of the health care system,
opposition MPs said the Croatian Institute for Health Insurance
since July owed compensation for sick leave, that patients in
hospitals were starving and the number of tuberculosis cases was
increasing.
