ZAGREB, Mar 10 (Hina) - The president of the Zagreb County Court,
Miroslav Sumanovic, on Tuesday received the head of the Jerusalem-
based Simon Wiesenthal Centre, Efraim Zuroff, at the latter's
request.
According to a statement the court issued on Wednesday, Zuroff was
allowed to view and copy documents relating to the investigation of
Nada Sakic in line with a provision of Croatia's law on criminal
proceedings.
Regarding the Sakic case, both parties said during talks that the
media, as well as various political circles, emphasised Sakic's
acquittal in a utterly wrong and unfounded manner.
The Zagreb County Court statement said the investigation against
Sakic was discontinued due to the state attorney's abandonment of
the subject's criminal persecution.
Nada Sakic, suspected of war crimes committed while working in a
Croatian concentration camp during World War II, was recently
released from detention and criminal persecution due to
insufficient evidence against her.
Sumanovic made no assessments of Zuroff's allegations of the
existence of further evidence against Sakic, to avoid any
prejudging of state attorney and court activity. He did however
point to legal provisions regulating conditions necessary to
reopen criminal proceedings.
Zuroff expressed satisfaction with the high degree of organisation
in the following of the trial of Dinko Sakic, accused of war crimes
against humanity.
