BELI MANASTIR, Feb 22 (Hina)- The National Trust Establishment
Committee President, Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, on Monday held talks with
the Beli Manastir town leaders and officials of the town's Trust
Establishment Committee on the process of reconstruction and
return, as well as the security situation in the town.
The town leaders told Skare-Ozbolt that 60 per cent of displaced
persons have returned, adding that the degree of reconstruction was
unsatisfactory due to the low number of issued decisions on
reconstruction and violation of payment of financial aid for the
reconstruction of houses in the first category of damage.
According to them, the economic situation is serious, and majority
of problems should be solved by a loan of the Croatian Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (HBOR), which has not yet been
realised.
At the talks, it was stressed that the agricultural combine (plant)
"Belja" was the key for the economic development of Baranja. It was
also pointed out that some displaced persons were not returning due
to difficult economic conditions.
The security situation in the town was marked as satisfactory
despite occasional individual incidents.
The security situation is no longer a problem in the sense of ethnic
criteria, Skare-Ozbolt said. The Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe's (OSCE) reports are selective and
excessively bad, she said adding that talks with the OSCE will be
held on state level.
