ZAGREB, March 4 (Hina) - The Croatian and Slovene commissions for
borders should as soon as possible define in the field the
contentious border on the Dragonja River after which the Croatian
and Slovene foreign ministers could discuss the land and sea
border, a Croatian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.
"In line with the agreement between the two ministers in Ljubljana
on February 17, the Croatian and Slovene diplomatic commissions for
borders should as soon as possible define in the field the border on
a six-kilometre-long section of the Dragonja River basin",
spokesman Zeljko Trkanjec said.
The two commissions will convey their conclusions to the Slovene
and Croatian foreign ministers, after which the two ministers could
be expected to meet and discuss the land and sea border as well as
Piran Bay, Trkanjec said.
The exact dates of the meeting of the border commissions or the
Granic-Frlec meeting have not been determined yet.
Slovene Foreign Minister Boris Frlec said on Thursday night that he
would soon meet again with his Croatian counterpart Mate Granic to
discuss, among other things, the regime in Piran Bay.
Speaking in an interview with Slovene television, Frlec said that
the recent incidents in Piran Bay only showed that both sides were
nervous because, he said, "it is obvious that the negotiating teams
are close to final solutions".
Trkanjec welcomed Frlec's statement adding it could have
"constructive influence" in resolving the land border issue and the
adoption of a temporary, and later a final solution for Piran Bay.
After their last meeting in Ljubljana, Granic and Frlec stated that
the two countries had to agree only on about six more kilometres of
land border in the Dragonja River basin.
