From 1993 until October 1998 Austria invested directly 442.2 million dollars into Croatia, making up 22.72 percent of all direct foreign investments in this country. Thus, Austria is the second biggest investor in Croatia, offering its money mostly to the banking system, industry and foreign trade. Austrians firms have showed interest in investing in privatisation
of Croatian public companies such as the Croatian Post and
Telecommunications (HPT), Power Industry (HEP), Croatian Roads,
Oil Industry (INA) and others.
The economy minister plenipotentiary at the Croatian embassy in
Vienna, Zlatko Begic, added that substantial Austrian outlays can
be expected in Croatian hotel business and tourism.
