LOWER HOUSE ADOPTS TWO REPORTS; ENDS THIS WEEK'S SESSIONS

ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's House of Representatives on Friday adopted a report on the work of the government's commission for detained and missing persons for the September 1997 - December 1998 period, and a report on the implementation of a drug abuse prevention strategy in 1998. The Lower House did not vote on reports on Croatia's cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague, and on Croatia's foreign policy. Next week, all parliamentary benches should consult on possibilities of a joint resolution or declaration text on the two subjects. Adopting the report on the work of the commission for the detained and the missing, the Lower House obligated the government and the commission to base future negotiations and agreements with the Yugoslav government and its commission for humanitarian issues and missing persons on Croatia

Adopting the report on the work of the commission for the detained and the missing, the Lower House obligated the government and the commission to base future negotiations and agreements with the Yugoslav government and its commission for humanitarian issues and missing persons on Croatia's legislation, the Dayton peace agreement, and Croatian-Yugoslav agreements. In line with these agreements, excluded from exchanges are persons criminally persecuted for war crimes, genocide, or the most serious violations of international humanitarian law. The Lower House will resume the session in early March, with discussions on eight items on the agenda, including bills on the ratification of a special relations agreement between Croatia and the Bosnian Federation, and on financial stimulants and compensation in agriculture.
