EU INVESTS US7.5 MILLION INTO RECONSTRUCTION OF VUKOVAR SO FAR

VUKOVAR, Feb 18 (Hina) - Special envoy of the European Commission to Croatia, Per Vinther, and head of the ASB office, EU's partner in the reconstruction of the Danube region, Alfonse Peeters, on Thursday visited the reconstructed pump station for filtering the Danube River water, and the Vukovar 2 transformer station. The European Union invested about 400.00 Euro into the reconstruction of the pump and transformer stations. It has also financed the reconstruction of the 35kW transmission line between Vinkovci and Vukovar (eastern Croatia) to which the Vukovar 2 transformer station is connected. Peeters stressed the EU, in helping in the reconstruction, contributed to the peaceful reintegration of the region and coexistence among the residents. Vinther expressed readiness of the EU to continue doing so in the future. Vukovar-Srijem County prefect Rudolf Koenig expressed satisfaction that the international community has got involved in the reconstruction of the Croatian Danube region, especially the town of Vukovar, to whom assistance is necessary. Since 1996, the European Union has invested more than US$7.5 million into the reconstruction of housing units and the infrastructure in Vukovar. (hina) lml
