151 ALBANIANS KILLED IN KOSOVO IN JANUARY 1999 - KOSOVO COMMITTEE

PRISTINA, Feb 10 (Hina) - The Kosovo committee for the protection of human rights and freedoms on Wednesday reported that 151 ethnic Albanians had been killed in the southern Yugoslav province of Kosovo in January 1999. Twenty five of them were killed under unexplained circumstances, the death of one Albanian was caused by torturing, while others were killed in armed conflicts. According to the committee's data, Serb forces wounded 32, abducted 78, arrested 255 and abused 1,175 Albanians. In the same period, 29 Kosovo Albanians were sentenced to a number of years in prison. Looking for hidden weapons, Serb police searched 600 Albanian homes. The killed, wounded, or abused victims include 28 children, 28 women, and 36 elderly people, the Kosovo committee for the protection of human rights and freedoms reported. (hina) it
