ICTY DOESN'T ACCEPT IMMUNITY FOR PRESIDENTS OF STATE - ARBOUR

ZAGREB/PARIS, Jan 18 (Hina) - The chief prosecutor of The Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Monday said the ICTY did not accept immunity for a president of state which could protect him from being brought before the tribunal. ICTY's regulations clearly state that the fact that somebody is or was a president of state does not exempt a suspect from criminal responsibility, Louise Arbour told French daily paper 'Liberation'. She said Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, and Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic, as well as other high-ranking political and military officials had since 1993 known they had no immunity.
