US GOVT DONATES BOOKS TO ZAGREB POLICE ACADEMY

ZAGREB, Dec 12 (Hina) - A US agency implementing a programme of international assistance in crime police training on Tuesday donated 128 books on police work to the Zagreb Police Academy's library. The donation, which is part of a project of the US State Department and Justice Ministry, was handed by Robert Silberstein, a representative at the US Embassy in Zagreb. The aim of the US Government is to contribute to the establishment of a centre for analysis in Croatia and development of new technologies and a new system of education at the Police Academy, he said. This donation is another example of the strengthening of the US- Croatia cooperation and friendship and support for Croatia's efforts to draw closer to western standards, he said. The head of the Police Academy, Petar Veic, said the cooperation between the US government and Croatia's Interior Ministry, which had started half a year ago, was yielding first results. The donation includes books on forms of criminal behaviour, research on reactions of police officers and modern approaches to crime prevention. The donation is the first stage of a US project on providing technical assistance in the training of Croatian police officers, worth more than US$100,000. The project aims at introducing the best international and legal procedures in the work programmes of the Police Academy and Croatian police forces. (hina) rml
