in the first ten months of 2000 amounted to just above ten billion
dollars, which is a 1.9 percent increase as against the same period
last year, the State Institute for Statistics said last Tuesday.

In that period, Croatia's exports exceeded US$3.6 billion, which is
a 2.3 percent increase when compared to the same period 1999,
whereas imports amounted to US$6.4 billion, a 1.7 percent drop.
The country's foreign deficit amounted to US$2.7 billion and the
export/import ratio was 56.4 percent.
According to production sectors, machines and means of transport
accounted for the largest part of Croatia's exports, amounting to
US$975.5 million (a 3.6% drop as against 1999). Various final
products accounted for US$722.6 million of the total trade (a 10.8%
drop).
The export of mineral fertilisers and lubricants increased by 42.5
percent to US$395.1 million whereas the export of unspecified
products and transactions in other sectors dropped by as much as
91.2 percent to US$388,000.
European Union countries accounted for most of Croatia's exports -
$2.04 billion (an 18.6% increase), Italy being Croatia's most
important trade partner with almost $854 million-worth exports.
It is interesting that exports to Luxembourg increased most ($1.7
million, a 7.300 percent increase).
Machines and means of transport accounted for the largest part of
the country's imports, worth almost US$2.1 billion (a 6.2%
decrease).
