MOSTAR, Dec 2 (Hina) - The High Representative in Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Wolfgang Petritsch, on Saturday replaced the interior
minister of the southern Herzeg-Bosnia Canton, Branko Matic, for
abusing authority and obstructing the implementation of the
General Framework Peace Agreement.
Matic was forbidden to perform any public or elected duty without
the approval of the High Representative.
Explaining the decision, Petritsch said Matic had failed to carry
out his decision ordering the use of neutral and joint insignia and
symbols. The High Representative believes the permanent use of
nationalist insignia and symbols created an atmosphere of
intimidation and discrimination and obstructed the return of
refugees.
Petritsch also holds Matic responsible for the illegal storage of
weapons the international Stabilisation Force and police
discovered at a police station in Livno and for violating the BH
Federation Constitution by failing to employ a single member of
minority peoples in the cantonal interior ministry, which had been
agreed on previously, said a statement issued by the Office of the
High Representative.
