ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - Croatia has banned the import of cattle from
Germany and the Netherlands. In this way, Zagreb has confirmed and

Switzerland.#L#
The ban has been imposed to prevent the possible spread of 'mad cow
disease' (namely bovine spongiform encephalopathy or BSE), which
has in recent days been shaking Europe again since the discovery of
the latest cases in Germany.
A decree on the ban on the beef import has already been signed by
Agriculture Minister, Bozidar Pankretic, but the ban will take
effect in a few days after its announcement in the Official Gazette
('Narodne Novine').
Besides this ban, it is not allowed to import products of the bone
and feed meals.
However, milk and milk products can be imported from the
aforementioned countries. The ban does not cover either the seed
for the artificial insemination.
Fears that shipments of meat from those countries can be imported in
Croatia until the ban become effective were dispelled by the
Veterinary Administration that said it no longer gave consents for
the import and revoked all issued consents which had not yet been
realised.
