ZAGREB, Nov 28 (Hina) - A society for the protection of consumers hailed Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic's initiative for the introduction of the eight-percent rate of the Value Added Tax (VAT) on basic agricultural produce
and foodstuffs. According to a statement released by the society called "Consumer", Fizulic's proposal for slashing the 22-percent VAT on groceries to eight percent is most social information the public could hear in recent years. The 'Consumer' urged the support to Economy Minister's initiative as such a step would help thwart the outflow of 3.5 billion German marks annually from Croatia, the amount of money which Croatians leave abroad going shopping in cheaper border areas of neighbouring countries every year.
