ZAGREB, Nov 28 (Hina) - There is no mad cow's disease in Croatia, nor
is there any founded suspicion in the existence of the disease in
the country, director of the Croatian Veterinary Administration,
Mate Brstilo, said Tuesday, categorically dismissing claims that
great amounts of osseous flour have been imported from Great
Britain. #L#
"This is completely untrue. Since 1991 Croatia has not imported one
kilogram of osseous flour from Great Britain," Brstilo told Hina.
According to Brstilo, Croatia has undertaken all measures to
prevent mad cow's disease. The measures include a prevention of
importing beef from countries in which the disease has been
registered, regular control measures of imported animals and
domestic stock.
Fear is, for now, unfounded, Brstilo stressed. However, he added,
caution is always necessary as nobody can guarantee with one
hundred per cent certainty that a disease can be prevented
completely.
Claims on the imported flour from Great Britain were made by Doctor
Mirko Jung in Slovene's weekly "Delo".
Croatia has already introduced measures of preventing the imports
of stock from Great Britain, Portugal, France and Switzerland.
