SARAJEVO, Nov 16 (Hina) - Two candidates each from the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (OSCE) who received the largest number of votes in the recent elections have been taken off lists of candidates of this party for
seats at the assemblies of five cantons in the Bosnian federation, the Organisation for Security and Europe (OSCE) Mission said Thursday. This punitive measure was undertaken because of the HDZ's breaches of electoral rules and regulations, namely, for the violation of the electoral media ban by organising a Bosnian Croat referendum at the time of elections, and for hindering a team which should have checked the financial business of the party. largest number of votes in the recent elections have been taken off
lists of candidates of this party for seats at the assemblies of
five cantons in the Bosnian federation, the Organisation for
Security and Europe (OSCE) Mission said Thursday.
This punitive measure was undertaken because of the HDZ's breaches
of electoral rules and regulations, namely, for the violation of
the electoral media ban by organising a Bosnian Croat referendum at
the time of elections, and for hindering a team which should have
checked the financial business of the party.
The HDZ does not have the right to substitute candidates eliminated
from the electoral race with others, so the seats they lost in
cantonal assemblies will remain empty.
Three names have been taken off the HDZ list of candidates: vice-
president of the party and current Bosnian Federation vice-premier
Dragan Covic, who ran as candidate for the state parliament, HDZ
vice-president Marko Tokic, also candidate for the parliament, and
Mate Franjcevic, candidate for the parliament's Lower House.
