ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - About 200 interior ministry pensioners rallied in front of the government building in downtown Zagreb on Monday, demanding talks with the prime minister on the harmonisation of their pensions. The pensioners,
retired between Dec. 31, 1998 and Dec. 7, 1999, demand that the government immediately amend the law on pension insurance rights of active military and authorised officials. They feel deprived as their pensions are smaller than those of interior ministry pensioners who were retired with fewer years of service. The protesters say laws are applied retroactively, as they were retired under one and received pensions under another law, which revolve around 1,400 kuna ($161). This happens to people with 25 and 30 years of service, they say. They demand that the prime minister immediately tackle their problem, as promised after a protest rally last July.(hina) ha
