ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic on Saturday received Croatian athletes who won medals at the Sydney Olympic Games. The Olympic medallists: weightlifter Nikolay Pesalov who earned gold and the crew in the
rowing competition that won the bronze in men's eight event - Niksa and Sinisa Skelin, Tihomir Frankovic, Kresimir Culjak, Igor Francetic, Tomislav Smoljanovic, Branimir Vujevic, with cox Silvio Petrisko (except Igor Boraska who is still in Australia) - accompanied with their coaches and Croatian Olympic Committee members attended the reception. President Mesic congratulated them for their achievements, and said athletes were the best ambassadors and promoters of Croatia. Mesic was sad that Croatian national teams had not won medals in team sports in Sydney. He, however, expressed hope that Croatian sportsmen and sportswomen would record better results at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004

President Mesic congratulated them for their achievements, and

Since it won independence, Croatia has earned seven Olympic
medals.
