Croatian President Stipe Mesic said in the southern Adriatic port
of Split on Tuesday at a ceremony marking University Day.
Greeting the head of the University of Split, the deans, students,
and numerous prominent local figures, Mesic said education had to
adapt to the 21st century's increasing need for the acquisition of
new knowledge.
"The goal in Croatian education is strengthening creativity and
technological awareness, building an integral human being. The
state will provide every form of assistance... within real
frameworks. Our goal is to raise the quality of education in Croatia
to the European Union level," the president said.
"We shall increase earmarking for education, adjust the
organisation of Croatian education to that of the EU, nurture in
education systems the flow of thoughts, ideas, the exchange of
personnel, especially between Croatian universities, because this
is the way to stop Croatian qualified personnel from going abroad,"
Mesic said.
He visited the College of Electrical Engineering, Engineering and
Shipbuilding.
