DEFENCE MINISTER WITHOUT COMMENT ON NEW GENERALS' LETTER
ZAGREB, Oct 5 (Hina) - Croatian Defence Minister Jozo Rados refused
to comment on Thursday's letter issued by 11 Croatian generals in
which they explained why they wrote their first letter last week and
expressed regret over no mention on the merit of it.
There is no need for comment, Rados replied to a reporter's question
after a Government closed session. #L#
"I do not wish to comment on the situation, meaning the new letter by
retired Croatian Armed Forces generals, like I did not comment on
any statements made by retired generals who had in the past months,
even years, stated more than they should have in line with an
unwritten code of conduct of retired officers, especially
generals," Rados told reporters in the government building.
Croatian Army generals who last Thursday forwarded an open letter
to the Croatian public, this Thursday wrote a new letter, prompted
by numerous responses.
The latest one was signed by 11 of 12 generals who signed the
previous one. The one who has not signed the new letter is Damir
Krsticevic who regards that the first letter contained all what
should be said and that there is no need for additional
explanations.
Following last week's letter, Croatian President Stipe Mesic last
Friday retired seven of the generals, signatories to the letter,
who had still been active military personnel, explaining that
active army officers cannot make public statements without the
consent of the defence minister.
The other five signatories to the letter were not active officers.
