ZAGREB, Sept 26 (Hina) - Croatia's Prime Minister Ivica Racan on
Tuesday held successful meetings with Great Britain's counterpart
Tony Blair and Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, thus ending his visit
to the United Kingdom.
Racan arrived on Saturday at Blair's invitation to attend, as the
leader of Croatia's Social Democratic Party, the 101st conference
of Blair's Labour Party in Brighton, which he addressed earlier
today.
Croatia's Prime Minister today also met with British Education and
Science Secretary David Blanckett. All meetings were "very cordial
and lasted longer than planned," the chief of Racan's cabinet, Igor
Radjenovic, told Hina.
It was agreed with Blanckett that he visit Croatia and "present his
ministry's work platform, the know-how," so that Croatia might see
if there was anything it could take over.
Radjenovic said that Racan was asked by both Cook and Blair as to how
they might help Croatia, extending full support to an upcoming
Zagreb conference which should gather Yugoslavia's neighbours.
"The talks also tackled the situation in Serbia in light of (last
weekend's) elections. Prime Minister Racan was applauded for
stating that victory by the Serb opposition would be the first step
towards the democratisation of that country, even though the
process will be long," Radjenovic told Hina.
Foreign Secretary Cook confirmed he would attend a Zagreb summit in
November gathering officials from the European Union and Southeast
Europe. Blair, who has also been invited, said he would visit
Croatia as soon as he could.
Prior to returning to Croatia on Wednesday, Racan should hold a
press conference in London.
