GOEDOELLOE, Sept 13 (Hina) - By granting Croatia access to the
Italy-Slovenia-Hungary trilateral, we are correcting the omission
of not having Croatia join this regional initiative from the very
beginning, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban said during talks
with his Croatian counterpart Ivica Racan in Goedoelloe Wednesday,
ahead of a regional conference of prime ministers of Croatia,
Italy, Slovenia and Hungary.
The trilateral Italy-Slovenia-Hungary was established on Italy's
initiative in 1996. Although Croatia had requested accession back
in 1997, it was not granted joining for political reasons until
now.
Orban and Racan spoke about the economic cooperation between the
two countries which does not satisfy the ambitions of either side.
Racan announced tenders for concession for a part of the Rijeka
harbour soon, which Hungary is interested in.
The two premiers concluded work on improving road and railroad
infrastructure from Budapest to the Croatian coast should be
expedited.
Speaking about the possibilities of promoting cooperation in the
area of power supply, Racan announced a concept of privatising
Croatia's oil company INA would be adopted next month.
The two prime ministers expressed hope negotiations on a free trade
agreement would soon come to a close, and Orban offered Hungary's
assistance to Croatia in its preparations for entering the Central
European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA).
Orban accepted Racan's invitation to officially visit Croatia
soon.
