ZADAR, Sept 22 (Hina) - Jeronim Nekic and Goran Petric, two Zadar
residents suspected of having helped harbour the so-called Ahmici
group, were released from prison on Friday. #L#
Nekic and Petric were arrested and taken into police custody on
September 11 and charges were pressed against them as they were
suspected of having harboured four persons suspected of committing
war crimes in the central Bosnian village of Ahmici.
Two other persons who were also arrested for helping the Ahmici
group, Croatian army officer Zeljko Stipic and a former head of the
Service for the Protection of the Constitutional Order (SZUP)
branch in Zadar, Joso Nekic, will remain in custody.
Leaving prison, Nekic and Petric told reporters they were
completely innocent.
The investigating judge in the Nekic and Petric case questioned
some 15 witnesses, but their testimonies did not corroborate the
suspicion against them, their attorneys said.
This is a legal and political scandal, one of the attorneys said.
