JASENAK (BJELOLASICA), Sept 22 (Hina) - Members of the Croatian
government and government coordination bodies on Friday morning
met at the Olympic centre on Bjelolasica Mountain to discuss the so
far work of the government in order to improve its efficiency.
Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said earlier this week there
would be no reconstruction of the government, announced in media
over the past several months which cited statements of senior
officials.
In seven months of the work of the coalition government, Prime
Minister Racan was faced with resignations of his ministers on two
occasions. Last week, Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac tendered his
resignation to the Prime Minister.
The resignation was offered along with a decision that the Finance
Ministry's instruction of September 11 limiting duty-free
import of some groceries be no longer implemented as of last Monday.
Racan did not accept his resignation. Earlier this year, in May, the
Prime Minister failed to accept the resignation offered by Interior
Minister Sime Lucin. Minister Lucin offered his resignation after
Croatian President Stipe Mesic criticised the work of the Interior
Ministry.
The meeting of government's coordination bodies and minister is the
second great meeting in less than a month. Representatives of the
government, trade unions and employers, met in late August in the
Plitvice Lakes National Park, and discussed the economic strategy,
amendments to the tax policy, social agreement and the projection
of the budget over the next three years.
A press conference is to be held after today's meeting.
