Croatia, whose delegation is headed by Prime Minister Ivica Racan,
will on Wednesday officially join the Italy-Slovenia-Hungary
trilateral, upon which the four countries' premiers will issue a
joint statement.
After the meeting, the premiers will hold a news conference,
announced for around 1pm.
The conference is focusing on cooperation so far within the
trilateral, strengthening cooperation among parliaments,
cooperation in the economy and military spheres, the situation in
the Southeast of Europe, especially ahead of the upcoming elections
in Yugoslavia, and the process of joining the European Union and
NATO.
The trilateral Italy-Slovenia-Hungary was established on Italy's
initiative in 1996. Although Croatia had requested accession back
in 1997, it was not granted joining for political reasons until
now.
Ahead of the conference, Prime Minister Racan met separately with
his host, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban and the two spoke
about promoting economic cooperation which is far from the level of
very good political relations between Croatia and Hungary.
