DUBROVNIK, Aug 28 (Hina) - An international conference entitled "Social and Cultural History of Jews on the East Adriatic Coast in the 17th Century" began in Dubrovnik Monday. The four-day conference was organised by the Zagreb
University and the Centre and Mediterranean studies in Dubrovnik. Participating are some 50 people and is the third conference of such kind held in Dubrovnik. The conference will focus on the social and economic history and intellectual contributions of Jews, as well as issues of the current position of the Jewish community in this region. Special attention will be paid to a script dated from the 17th century stored in London and which will be able to shed light on the relations of the then Dubrovnik Republic towards the issue of Jews, as well as interesting works from Italian and Spanish archives.
